Long Island man charged with strangling and stabbing girlfriend during extended assault.

A man from Long Island has been indicted on multiple charges, including assault and strangulation, following a disturbing incident in which he is alleged to have violently attacked his girlfriend in front of her 15-year-old child, who has developmental disabilities. The indictment was announced by prosecutors on Wednesday, highlighting the severity of the alleged crimes that took place at a hotel in Holtsville.

The 33-year-old suspect, whose name is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity, reportedly subjected his girlfriend to a four-hour ordeal beginning late on May 3. According to Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney, the assault included repeated punches to the victim’s head and body, as well as an alarming act of stabbing her in the arm with a pen. In a particularly egregious display of violence, he is accused of strangling her to the point where she sustained a fracture to her hyoid bone—an important bone in the neck that plays a crucial role in facilitating speech, swallowing, and other muscular functions. Medical experts indicate that a fracture of the hyoid bone can result in life-threatening complications.

The violent confrontation came to an end in the early hours of May 4, when other hotel guests, disturbed by the sounds of the altercation, alerted law enforcement. Upon their arrival, officers apprehended the suspect and provided immediate medical attention to the victim, who was subsequently transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. Medical personnel reported that she exhibited severe bruising and swelling across her face, further underscoring the brutality of the attack.

The suspect was arraigned on charges including strangulation, assault, and knowingly endangering the welfare of a child, a serious allegation given the presence of the victim’s child during the incident. During the arraignment, bail was set at 0,000 in cash or 0,000 as an insurance bond, with a partially secured bond option of million. The defendant is scheduled to return to court on July 2 for further proceedings.

As the legal process continues, the case sheds light on the alarming issue of domestic violence and its devastating impact on families and communities. Authorities and advocacy groups are calling attention to the need for resources and support for victims to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Media News Source.
