Long Island man fatally stabs roommate during altercation, police report.
A 23-year-old man from Long Island has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of his roommate during a domestic dispute on Sunday. Nassau County police identified the suspect as Desean Hamilton, a resident of Elmont. The victim, a 33-year-old man whose name has not been disclosed, sustained multiple stab wounds during the altercation.
Authorities reported that the incident took place around 1 p.m. at the residence shared by Hamilton and the victim, located approximately five miles northeast of John F. Kennedy International Airport. Initial investigations suggest that the two men were engaged in a heated argument concerning their living conditions. The situation escalated when Hamilton allegedly stabbed his roommate, resulting in a life-threatening injury.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the stabbing was reported. Upon their arrival, they found the victim suffering from what authorities described as “numerous” stab wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene were able to identify Hamilton as the individual responsible for the stabbing. The police apprehended him without incident, and he was taken into custody. An arraignment was scheduled for Hamilton in Hempstead on Monday, marking the progression of this serious criminal case.
This incident is particularly notable, as it represents one of two deadly stabbings occurring on Long Island during the recent holiday season. In a separate incident on Christmas Day, a man named John Pilaccio, 43, was arrested for allegedly stabbing 23-year-old Edeedson “Eddy” Cine at a CVS pharmacy in Lindenhurst. Cine, who was working as a cashier at the time, suffered fatal injuries from a knife attack.
The recent rise in violent incidents within the Long Island area has raised concerns among local authorities and residents. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding both stabbings, seeking to understand the factors contributing to these tragic events.
As the legal proceedings for Hamilton and Pilaccio move forward, the community remains vigilant and concerned about safety and well-being during this festive period. Local residents are urged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement as the investigation continues.
