Long Island man killed by crowbar to the skull while in front of his daughter, according to the District Attorney.

A Long Island man, Darrell Trent, has been indicted on charges of second-degree murder in connection with the violent death of 45-year-old Carlos Bonaparte. This incident, which occurred in East Patchogue, has shocked the local community, especially as it unfolded in front of multiple witnesses, including Bonaparte’s young daughter.

The alleged attack took place in the early hours of May 18, outside of Bonaparte’s home. Reports indicate that Bonaparte was present with his daughter when his girlfriend and two of her cousins arrived at the scene. A verbal confrontation ensued between his girlfriend and one of the cousins, which prompted the cousin to contact Trent.

Trent reportedly arrived shortly thereafter, exited his vehicle, and confronted Bonaparte with what authorities describe as a crowbar. Investigators allege that Trent intentionally struck Bonaparte with the claw end of the crowbar, penetrating the skull and inflicting severe brain injuries. Medical personnel transported Bonaparte to Long Island Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Following the incident, Trent fled the scene but was apprehended five days later in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Upon his return to New York, he was arraigned in Central Islip’s First District Court. During the arraignment, Trent pleaded not guilty to the charges against him and has been ordered held without bail, as confirmed by online court records.

As the case progresses, Trent is scheduled to appear in court again on July 2, where he faces a potential sentence of 15 years to life in prison if convicted.
