Long Island man receives sentence for sexually abusing his 8-year-old daughter.
A Long Island man has been sentenced to 23 years in prison following a conviction for sexually abusing his eight-year-old daughter, according to a statement released by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. The defendant, a 33-year-old resident of Bay Shore whose name has not been disclosed in order to protect the identity of the victim, has been found guilty of multiple incidents of abuse that occurred between October 2021 and November 2022.
The court revealed that the young girl lived with both her mother and father on alternating weekly schedules. During the weeks the child was in her father’s care, he subjected her to acts of sexual abuse. Prosecutors reported that the defendant instilled fear in his daughter by threatening her with violence should she disclose the abuse to anyone.
Concerned about her child’s increasing anxiety associated with visits to her father, the girl’s mother became alarmed in the fall of 2022. In November of that year, the victim confided in her mother about the abuse she had endured. The mother promptly reported the allegations to the Suffolk County police, leading to the father’s arrest on November 8, 2022.
The defendant was subsequently convicted by a jury on October 10, 2023, on multiple charges, including course of sexual conduct against a child, incest, and endangering the welfare of a child. In a decisive ruling on Wednesday, Judge Timothy Mazzei sentenced the man to 23 years in prison, coupled with 20 years of post-release supervision. The judge’s ruling highlights the severity of the crimes committed and aims to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable for the profound harm inflicted on the victim.
District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney expressed that this lengthy sentence reflects the serious nature of the offense against an innocent child.
