M. Night Shyamalan unveils ‘Magic 8 Ball’ series and launches a horror-romance novel co-written with Nicholas Sparks.
Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is exploring new creative avenues as he transitions from the silver screen to literature while also making a return to television. Recently, it was announced that Shyamalan will direct a live-action series titled Magic 8 Ball, which is based on the well-known fortune-telling toy produced by Mattel. This development was highlighted in a report by Media News Source, indicating that Shyamalan has been working on the project for several years, aimed at blending his unique storytelling style with the nostalgic appeal of the toy.
In addition to directing, Shyamalan will serve as co-creator of the series alongside Brad Falchuk, known for his work on acclaimed television shows such as Glee and American Horror Story. Falchuk is also slated to write the series, marking a notable return for Shyamalan to the small screen following the conclusion of his Apple TV+ series Servant, which wrapped up in March 2023 after four successful seasons. While details about the plot or release date for Magic 8 Ball remain undisclosed, the collaboration between these two seasoned creators has generated considerable interest in the project.
Shyamalan’s recent endeavors also extend to literature, as he has co-authored a novel titled Remain with renowned novelist Nicholas Sparks, known for beloved works such as The Notebook and A Walk to Remember. Released by Penguin Random House, Remain combines Shyamalan’s expertise in supernatural themes with Sparks’ storytelling knack for romance. This novel represents not only their first collaborative work but also the realization of a long-standing ambition between the two to merge their creative talents.
The narrative follows Tate Donovan, a New York architect, who travels to Cape Cod to design a summer home for his best friend while seeking a fresh start. Shyamalan penned the screenplay for a film adaptation of Remain, which is expected to be released in the fall of 2026. The film will feature actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor in leading roles.
As Shyamalan navigates these significant projects spanning television and literature, both endeavors highlight his ongoing influence and adaptability within the entertainment landscape, fostering excitement among fans and industry observers alike.
