Malvern man charged with murder in connection to his wife’s disappearance eight years ago.
A Malvern man, Allen Gould, aged 61, is set to face a Chester County judge charged with the murder of his wife, Anna Maciejewska. The case has drawn attention due to the nature of the alleged crime and the fact that Maciejewska’s body has not been located nearly a decade after her disappearance. Maciejewska, who was 43 at the time she was reported missing in April 2017, has been the subject of ongoing investigative efforts that have finally culminated in legal action against her husband.
During a two-day preliminary hearing, Chief Deputy District Attorney Michelle Frei stated that Gould has long been regarded as the primary suspect in his wife’s disappearance. Evidence presented during the hearing indicated that Gould displayed a lack of concern for Maciejewska’s whereabouts, only reporting her missing after family and friends pressured him to do so. Investigators believe that Anna Maciejewska was last seen on March 29, 2017, a significant date that predates her reported disappearance by several weeks.
Frei emphasized that Maciejewska’s life appeared to have been extinguished the day she went missing, as all communication with her family and friends ceased following this date. Despite the absence of her body, investigators have gathered compelling circumstantial evidence, including the discovery of personal items left in her vehicle, which was found clean and detailed in a nearby gated community. A digital monitor in the car indicated it was last activated days after she was reported missing.
Defense attorney Evan Kelly contended that the prosecution’s case is primarily based on circumstantial evidence and lacks direct proof of murder. He pointed out that not only has Maciejewska’s body never been found, but there is also no concrete evidence regarding a weapon, motive, or an autopsy verifying any foul play. Kelly proposed alternate theories, suggesting that Maciejewska might have chosen to leave her marriage or even taken her own life.
On the contrary, Frei highlighted critical evidence, including Maciejewska’s final online searches related to domestic violence resources and her efforts to secure a divorce from Gould, suggesting a state of distress leading up to her disappearance. She had also made arrangements to visit her father in Poland, a trip she intended to undertake shortly after her last recorded sighting.
As the case progresses, it remains to be seen how the lack of a body will affect the prosecution’s ability to secure a conviction. Gould remains in custody, awaiting arraignment scheduled for July 3, while the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding Anna Maciejewska’s tragic disappearance.
