Man charged with killing 93-year-old, ransacking his home, and selling the victim’s car for 0, according to prosecutors.

Authorities in Philadelphia have disclosed new information regarding the murder of 93-year-old Lafayette Dailey, who was found dead in his Logan home on December 3. The investigation has led to the arrest of 53-year-old Coy Thomas, who now faces multiple charges, including murder and robbery.

Surveillance footage captured Thomas allegedly entering Dailey’s residence on the 4500 block of N. 16th St., approximately 10 minutes before the elderly man was killed. Shortly after this encounter, Thomas was seen driving away in Dailey’s white 2007 Chrysler 300. Two days later, police discovered Dailey’s body inside the home, revealing that he had suffered several stab wounds to the chest.

Additional evidence suggests that there was a struggle within the home, as the scene was described as having been “ransacked.” Assistant District Attorney Ashley Toczylowski noted that items were strewn about the house, indicating the chaotic nature of the crime. Importantly, authorities found no signs of forced entry, which suggests a prior acquaintance between Thomas and Dailey. Prosecutors indicated that Thomas previously lived in proximity to Dailey, further supporting the notion that the two individuals may have had a neighborly relationship.

In an added layer to the charges, Thomas is also implicated in the theft and unauthorized use of Dailey’s debit card, actions that occurred before his arrest on Sunday. Law enforcement apprehended him as part of the ongoing investigation into the homicide.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner characterized the crime as “evil,” emphasizing the shocking nature of targeting an elderly individual. He remarked that such acts are generally not seen even among organized crime groups. Krasner has urged the public to assist in the investigation by coming forward with any relevant information that may help bring justice to Dailey’s tragic death.
