Man kidnapped in Queens and held for 10 days for ransom, including cash and cryptocurrency, reports police.

A 38-year-old man was the victim of a significant kidnapping incident, allegedly orchestrated by a group of six men who held him captive for a duration of ten days and extorted more than ,000 from him, according to law enforcement authorities. The harrowing experience began on July 8, when the individual had dinner with a friend on Long Island. After the meal, the friend drove him to Flushing, where his vehicle was parked at the intersection of 31st Road and Union Street.

Shortly after being left alone, the man reported that he was ambushed by the six assailants, who used a taser to incapacitate him before forcibly transporting him to an undisclosed location. Furthermore, it has been reported that during his captivity, he was restrained with handcuffs as the suspects attempted to coerce him into relinquishing his financial assets. Ultimately, the victim disclosed to police that he transferred approximately 900,000 yen, which is equivalent to over ,000, via bank wire and through transactions from his cryptocurrency account.

The details surrounding the motive behind targeting this particular victim remain unclear. Authorities are still investigating whether the assailants had prior knowledge of his financial status or if the situation may have been opportunistic in nature.

On the morning of his release, the suspects allegedly abandoned the victim near his parked vehicle. Following this, he promptly drove himself to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens hospital to seek medical attention, but decided against treatment upon arrival, asserting that he did not feel the need for medical care.

This incident is not isolated, as it echoes similar cases involving individuals targeted for their cryptocurrency holdings. Notably, in May, an Italian man managed to escape captivity from a Manhattan apartment after being tortured for several weeks. In that case, his abductors sought to extract the password for his bitcoin account, drawing attention to the potential risks faced by cryptocurrency investors.

As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities that may indicate planned crimes against individuals with potential financial assets.
