Manhattan landlord, aged 99, suffers stroke following robbery incident at gunpoint.

A 99-year-old landlord in Washington Heights became the victim of a violent robbery, suffering a stroke just a day after the incident. The elderly building manager, Jose Antonio Tur, was approached by a masked assailant while he was waiting for a delivery at his apartment building on West 187th Street near Audubon Avenue.

According to police reports, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. when the suspect, who initially posed as a tenant wishing to pay rent, escalated the situation by attacking Tur. The robber brandished a firearm, pressing it against Tur’s throat during a struggle, as confirmed by law enforcement officials and family members. Surveillance footage reviewed by authorities depicted the suspect forcing Tur into an office within the building, where he managed to steal approximately ,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.

Following the altercation, emergency medical technicians transported Tur to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia. He sustained injuries that included two broken fingers and a cut to his hand as a result of the struggle. Although he was released after treatment, Tur experienced significant stress from the robbery, leading to a small stroke early the next morning.

Tur’s grandson revealed that the elderly man underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain following the stroke. As of Wednesday afternoon, he remained hospitalized.

Residents of the building expressed shock and concern over the incident, emphasizing the safe and quiet nature of their neighborhood. A longtime tenant, identified only as Rafael, characterized Tur as a diligent and respected landlord.
