Man’s wife recounts his early promise and tragic decline after robbery and sexual assault following his death on NYC subway.

In a deeply unsettling incident on a Manhattan subway, Jorge Gonzalez, a 37-year-old man, was discovered deceased on an R train on April 9. Following his death, police allege that two individuals committed acts of depravity, robbing him of personal belongings and, horrifyingly, engaging in sexual acts with his corpse.

The first reported encounter occurred shortly after midnight, when a man, believed to be in his 50s, boarded the train and discovered Gonzalez’s lifeless body. Authorities say the suspect proceeded to rummage through Gonzalez’s pockets, taking his belongings. Subsequently, he engaged in sexual acts with the corpse before finally exiting the train shortly after 12:10 a.m. Approximately 20 minutes later, a woman also came across Gonzalez’s body and, likewise, stole personal items.

Teresa, Gonzalez’s estranged wife, expressed her profound shock and disbelief upon learning about the circumstances of her husband’s death and the subsequent events. The pair shared a tumultuous history; once happily married with a 13-year-old son, they experienced a downward spiral largely fueled by Gonzalez’s struggle with alcoholism. After several unsuccessful attempts at rehabilitation, he ultimately severed ties with Teresa and their son five years prior to his tragic demise.

Born in the United States, Teresa initially met Gonzalez in Mexico during a family celebration at the age of 15. They married years later, but the pressures of life, coupled with Gonzalez’s addiction, led to a fractious relationship. Teresa reflects on their past marriage, acknowledging that while they had their moments of happiness, the challenges ultimately overwhelmed their bond.

An initial autopsy conducted on Gonzalez was inconclusive regarding the cause of death, as the city’s Medical Examiner stated that further studies are underway. Preliminary investigations suggest that years of alcoholism might have contributed to his demise, possibly through complications such as cirrhosis of the liver.

The events surrounding Gonzalez’s death were profoundly disturbing. Investigators revealed that he had boarded the train around 8 p.m. After lighting a cigarette, which caused others to vacate the car, he succumbed quietly, leaving no immediate signs of trauma or narcotics present. Surveillance footage from the subway will play a crucial role in identifying the suspects involved in these heinous acts, as police continue to search for the troubled individuals responsible.

Authorities are appealing to the public for information regarding the incident, and anyone with knowledge is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. The case has raised numerous questions about safety and the care provided to those battling addiction and mental health challenges, marking a tragic intersection of personal struggles and societal concerns.
