Massapequa man indicted for allegedly raping 12-year-old boy he met through a mobile app.

A 34-year-old man from Massapequa has been indicted on multiple serious charges concerning an incident involving a 12-year-old boy he had connected with on a mobile application. According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Marquise Utsey faces two counts each of first-degree rape and sexual abuse, one count of robbery, and a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.

The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening, December 6, when Utsey arrived at the residence of the young boy while the child’s parents were away. Authorities indicated that Utsey had established contact with the boy through a social media and dating application; however, the specific platform used has not been disclosed. Upon entering the child’s home, Utsey allegedly raped the boy and subsequently demanded money. In apparent fear for his safety, the child retrieved cash from a family member’s room and handed it over to Utsey before he fled the scene.

Following the incident, the child disclosed the events to his parents upon their return home, prompting them to notify law enforcement. Police were able to locate and arrest Utsey shortly thereafter.

During his arraignment on Tuesday, Utsey pleaded not guilty in front of Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis. He has been assigned legal representation from the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County. The judge set bail at 0,000 in cash, .5 million in bond, or .5 million in partially secured bond while the case is underway. If convicted on the most serious charge, Utsey could face a maximum sentence of up to 25 years in prison.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney condemned Utsey’s actions, describing them as “utterly reprehensible behavior and a profound betrayal of basic human decency.” He stated that the district attorney’s office is committed to holding accountable those who exploit technology to prey on children. Tierney emphasized the necessity of safeguarding the community’s most vulnerable members and pledged an aggressive pursuit of justice in these matters.

This case reflects growing concerns surrounding child safety in an increasingly digital world, as technology continues to create avenues for potential exploitation. As investigations proceed, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to protect children from similar predatory behavior.
