Mayor Adams raises record funds for re-election following Mamdani’s primary victory.
In a significant development for his re-election campaign, Mayor Eric Adams has reported raising an impressive ,556,155 during the most recent fundraising period, marking his largest financial influx so far in this election cycle. This influx of funds occurred predominantly after Zohran Mamdani’s unexpected primary victory, which has reverberated through New York City’s business landscape.
Of the total funds raised, a substantial ,513,328 was generated in the days following Mamdani’s win, showcasing a robust response from supporters in the aftermath of the primary. A key contributor to this fundraising success was an event hosted by the prominent real estate firm SL Green, which raised nearly million last Wednesday. The fundraiser took place at One Madison, the firm’s flagship skyscraper located in the Flatiron District, and was organized by CEO Marc Holliday.
The fundraising activities showcased significant engagement from SL Green employees, with 64 individuals contributing a total of ,301 to Adams’ campaign, as indicated in the financial disclosures released on Wednesday morning. Additionally, Kenneth Fishel, who collaborated with his wife Maria to host a fundraiser in the Hamptons on July 5, reached his maximum contribution to Adams on July 2.
Despite this fundraising momentum, the mayor faced a setback when the city’s Campaign Finance Board denied his request for public matching funds, citing the campaign’s failure to provide necessary documentation regarding his federal corruption indictment. This ruling adds to the existing challenges faced by the mayor’s campaign, which has now had over million in matching funds withheld since December.
Notably, Mamdani, the primary victor, has also benefited from the matching funds system, having netted million from the board along with an additional amount of 3,018 collected during the same recent fundraising period, which spanned mid-June to mid-July.
This evolving situation underscores the dynamic nature of the city’s political landscape as candidates grapple with fundraising efforts and the implications of legal challenges. The strategic focus on fundraising events and community engagement going forward will be crucial for both Adams and Mammadi as they navigate the upcoming electoral challenges.
