Minnesota man recorded confessing to murdering his mother.
A Minnesota man has been formally charged in connection with the alleged murder of his mother, following a series of troubling events that transpired over the weekend in Duluth. Nathan Douglas Davin, aged 46, stands accused of fatally shooting his 74-year-old mother, Maedean Davin, at their residence in the East Hillside neighborhood on Saturday night. Charges were filed on Tuesday in St. Louis County Court.
According to the Duluth Police Department, the incident unfolded late Saturday when Nathan Davin reportedly knocked on a neighbor’s door shortly before 11 p.m., conveying that “something about a fatality” had occurred. At the time, he was described as being clad only in boxer shorts and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, which raised concerns among the responding officers.
When questioned, Davin claimed he had awoken to find his mother deceased in their living room. However, court documents indicate a more sinister narrative. Investigators discovered Maedean Davin seemingly asleep in a recliner when she was shot in the face at close range. The scene revealed a number of firearms, including two pistols and additional ammunition, secured in an unlocked safe, alongside a 9mm pistol that had what appeared to be blood on a nightstand. Authorities also noted that Nathan Davin had blood on his hands.
During his initial questioning, Nathan Davin chose not to provide a statement and requested legal counsel. However, while left alone in the interview room, he was reportedly recorded making a chilling admission, stating that he had killed his mother. This statement significantly influenced the severity of the charges against him.
As of now, he faces one count of second-degree murder with intent. Assistant St. Louis County Attorney Kirstyn Oye requested a bail amount of 0,000, emphasizing the state’s objections to any pretrial release for Davin, given the gravity of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the case.
This tragic incident has left the local community in shock and has raised broader questions about safety and substance use. Authorities continue to investigate the matter, and further developments are anticipated as the case progresses through the legal system.
