Mirantis partners with FINOS to enhance cloud-native infrastructure for financial services.

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing technological collaboration within the financial services sector, Mirantis has officially joined the Fintech Open Source Foundation (FINOS) as a Silver Member. This organization, a branch of the Linux Foundation, focuses specifically on the intersection of open-source development and financial services.

Mirantis, a leading provider of Kubernetes-native infrastructure for Artificial Intelligence (AI), will lend its expertise and open-source resources to initiatives spearheaded by FINOS. The collaboration emphasizes the development of cloud-native infrastructure and high-performance computing solutions tailored for the financial sector. Among its responsibilities, Mirantis will assist with the 5-Spot project, which has been initiated by RBC Capital Markets. This initiative involves the deployment of k0smotron, a key element of the k0rdent project, which is designed to optimize cluster lifecycle management.

RBC Capital Markets has played a pivotal role in the innovation of k0rdent, with notable contributions from Erick Bourgeois, a distinguished technologist associated with RBC. Mirantis’ involvement is projected to enhance the capabilities of both the k0rdent and 5-Spot projects through its profound understanding of Kubernetes, k0smotron, and bare-metal lifecycle management.

The 5-Spot project addresses a significant need within the financial services industry—optimizing compute capacity in a manner that aligns with workload demands. The Kubernetes-native machine scheduler developed by 5-Spot allows for the orchestration of physical machines based on predefined schedules, promoting efficiency by preventing resources from remaining inactive during periods of lower demand. This model mirrors the operational strategies applied to cloud infrastructure, thereby setting a standard for resource management in the sector.

William Rizzo, Field Chief Technology Officer at Mirantis, stated that financial institutions face mounting complexities involving computational requirements, strict regulatory frameworks, and the necessity to modernize their infrastructure without relinquishing control. By joining FINOS, Mirantis aims to contribute to the establishment of standardized open technologies that cater to AI workloads while enabling financial entities to effectively navigate these challenges.

This collaboration not only underscores the importance of innovation in financial technology but also serves as a conduit for community-driven development that can address shared infrastructure challenges within the industry. As Mirantis aligns its resources with FINOS, the broader financial services landscape stands to benefit from advancements in technology that emphasize efficiency and transparency.
