Miss Universe Jamaica hospitalized following a fall from the stage during an event.
A competitor in the Miss Universe pageant, Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry, experienced a fall off the stage during a preliminary round of the contest in Bangkok on Wednesday. Thankfully, reports indicate that she is recovering well in the hospital. The incident occurred as Henry was walking in an orange evening gown and high heels when she inadvertently stepped off the elevated stage.
Footage shared on social media showed several individuals rushing to provide assistance immediately following the fall, and subsequent clips captured her being transported on a stretcher. According to Raul Rocha, CEO of the Miss Universe organization, Henry was accompanied by her family at the hospital and is currently under medical care. Rocha confirmed there were no broken bones, and Henry would remain under observation throughout the night. The organization intends to maintain communication with her family to offer continued support during her recovery.
In a statement, the Miss Universe Jamaica organization also reassured the public that Henry did not sustain any life-threatening injuries. They emphasized the importance of remaining optimistic and asked supporters to send positive thoughts and prayers for her well-being.
This incident comes at a tumultuous time for the Miss Universe pageant, which has been overshadowed by controversies leading up to the final ceremony scheduled for Friday morning. Just earlier this month, Rocha issued an apology after a member of the organization referred to Miss Mexico as a “dummy,” sparking public outcry. Additionally, three judges resigned in the days leading up to the event amid allegations that the selection process for the final 30 contestants was compromised by an external corrupt group. Officials have firmly denied these claims of preselection.
With the culmination of the pageant just days away, the organization faces increased scrutiny as it navigates these challenges while aiming to uphold the pageant’s integrity and provide a safe environment for its contestants. As the situation develops, attention will continue to focus on Henry’s recovery and the impact of recent events on the public’s perception of the iconic pageant.
