Mother in Queens arrested for the murder of her 15-month-old son following an incident involving self-inflicted wrist injuries.
A mother from Queens has been taken into custody on charges of murdering her 15-month-old son, following a tragic incident that left both mother and child in critical distress. The young boy, identified as Charlie Ramraykha, was discovered unresponsive in the family’s South Jamaica residence on 157th Street near 109th Avenue. Authorities reported that they found the child alongside his mother, 28-year-old Nicole Boodhai, who had reportedly inflicted injuries on herself in an apparent suicide attempt.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), emergency responders were summoned to the scene where they encountered a harrowing situation. Inside the bathroom, medical personnel found Boodhai with serious wrist injuries from a box cutter, while her son was in critical condition. Both were transported to Jamaica Hospital; however, sadly, Charlie did not survive the ordeal. His mother remains hospitalized and is facing charges that include murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
The circumstances surrounding the child’s death are particularly concerning as it was reported that he showed no visible signs of trauma upon discovery, leaving investigators with unanswered questions regarding the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to this unimaginable tragedy.
The incident has left the local community deeply unsettled. Neighbors described hearing disturbing sounds during the hours leading up to the police call. Fateema Masuma, a nearby resident, recalled the harrowing screams of a man, accompanied by the cries of a child, which she described as deeply frightening. She noted that Charlie lived with both his father and older sister, in addition to his mother, who is reportedly from Guyana.
As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the shocking nature of this incident, raising broader concerns about child safety and mental health awareness. The case underscores the urgent need for accessible mental health support for families facing crises. As authorities continue to investigate, the tragic loss of young Charlie serves as a sobering reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children in similar situations.
