New Cat Hotel and Spa Opens in Mount Laurel, Providing Perfect Getaway for Cats
A new venture catering specifically to cat owners is set to launch next month in Mount Laurel, providing a dedicated space for feline companions during their owners’ travels. The Happy Cat Hotel & Spa, a franchise based in Connecticut, marks its first entry into the Philadelphia area, addressing a growing demand for specialized pet boarding.
Diane Kane and her husband, Keith Johnson, are renovating a 5,000-square-foot facility that previously housed a title company on Briggs Road, close to Route 38. This new hotel will feature 33 uniquely themed rooms designed to provide a comfortable environment for cats, with names inspired by travel destinations such as Atlantic City Boardwalk Kitty and Felinedelphia. Pricing is competitive, starting at per day for standard accommodations and ranging up to for luxury suites.
The hotel aims to foster an environment where cats can thrive. Executive groomer Cat Shemeley emphasizes the importance of creating a space where cats can behave naturally, free from the confines of traditional cage boarding. Alongside basic accommodations, the facility will feature upscale amenities, including a dedicated staff of ten members, who will provide personalized care.
Each room will maintain a strict policy of allowing only cats from the same household, minimizing the potential for stress-related conflicts. Staff will engage the cats in daily enrichment activities and supervise their interactions. All guest rooms will include windows that offer outdoor views, while “Cat TV,” featuring a loop of bird and squirrel videos, will be available for a nominal fee.
In addition to providing a nurturing environment, the hotel encourages cat owners to bring their pets’ usual food to maintain dietary consistency. Trained staff will manage any necessary medication during the cats’ stay. This tailored approach aims to address the unique needs of cats, which can often be overlooked in traditional dog-oriented facilities.
Market trends suggest a promising growth trajectory for the pet boarding industry. According to a report by Grandview Research, the global pet boarding market, valued at approximately .63 billion, is expected to grow by over 8% by 2030. Cat ownership is on the rise, prompting a greater need for facilities that cater specifically to their care.
Despite the perception that cats can often be left alone for extended periods, many feline owners express the need for specialized care that is currently lacking. As Kane and Johnson launch their initiative, they aim to meet this demand and foster a comprehensive boarding experience designed solely for cats. The success of this venture could pave the way for similar establishments in the future, highlighting the distinct needs and preferences of cat owners across the country.
