New Jersey cover band cancels performance following Bruce Springsteen’s comments against Trump.

Following Bruce Springsteen’s recent remarks during his European tour, which characterized President Trump as corrupt and incompetent, the rocker has encountered unexpected repercussions. In a warning from the White House, the President suggested there may be consequences for Springsteen’s outspoken criticism while abroad. However, it appears that the effects of the singer’s comments have been felt more acutely by a local tribute band than by Springsteen himself.

Riv’s Toms River Hub, a venue in New Jersey, was set to host the cover band No Surrender on May 30. Reports indicate that management decided to cancel the event due to concerns that Springsteen’s comments had made his music less appealing to patrons. This decision reflects a broader social and political context, highlighting the polarization of public opinion surrounding both Springsteen and Trump.

On Thursday, bandleader Brad Hobicorn recounted communications with bar owner Tony Rivoli, who expressed hesitations about proceeding with the performance. According to Hobicorn, it became clear over the weekend that the venue considered the show “too risky” and, as a result, the band would forfeit their agreed-upon ,500 fee. In a message to Hobicorn, Rivoli lamented that Springsteen’s vocal stance had inadvertently put the tribute act in jeopardy.

The venue’s owner shared similar sentiments in a text to the band’s bass player, suggesting that the conservative demographic of Toms River might not support Springsteen’s perceived political views. Rivoli suggested that if No Surrender could assure him they would attract at least 75 attendees, he might reconsider the cancellation; ultimately, the band decided not to pursue the event further.

Hobicorn acknowledged the legitimate safety concerns associated with the performance and expressed relief that the decision had been made to cancel the show. Instead, No Surrender will perform at Headliner Oasis in Neptune Township on the same date.

As Springsteen continues the final leg of his Land of Hope and Dreams tour, he reiterated his concerns about the current political climate during a recent concert in Manchester. He criticized the administration for leading the country toward a “dark place,” emphasizing his perception of a decline in the values that have historically defined America.

In response to Springsteen’s comments, President Trump took to social media, describing the musician in dismissive terms while suggesting that such remarks abroad could lead to consequences for the singer upon his return to the United States. The political and cultural tensions surrounding these events underscore the complex intersection of music, celebrity, and public discourse in contemporary America.

Media News Source reports that as these events unfold, the impact on artists and venues will continue to be a point of discussion amid an increasingly divided political landscape.
