Authorities in New Orleans have disclosed the traumatic circumstances surrounding the death of Bryan Vasquez, a 12-year-old boy who was reported missing earlier this month. New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick confirmed that Bryan’s death resulted from drowning after he sustained blunt force trauma, reportedly from an alligator attack.

Bryan Vasquez was last seen on August 14 when he reportedly slipped out of his bedroom window around 5 a.m. Surveillance footage captured him wandering near his home shortly thereafter, dressed only in an adult diaper. This alarming incident initiated a widespread search that continued for approximately two weeks before the tragic discovery of his body on August 29. Police utilized a drone to locate his remains in a lagoon situated within the Michoud neighborhood, close to the area where he lived with his family.

The investigation into Bryan’s death has prompted Superintendent Kirkpatrick to take proactive measures regarding local wildlife supervision. She has formally requested that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries assess the population of aggressive alligators present in the lagoon where Bryan’s body was found. Additionally, She has launched an internal review to ascertain the reasons behind a significant delay in the response time of law enforcement and emergency services; it took more than five hours for authorities to respond to the initial emergency call reporting the boy’s disappearance.

As part of the ongoing investigation, a spokesperson representing the Vasquez family confirmed that law enforcement has issued a search warrant for the cellphones belonging to Bryan’s parents. Although Superintendent Kirkpatrick declined to provide specific details about the rationale behind this step, she emphasized that it is a routine procedure in complex investigations.
