New York City to pay to settle claims of assault by Mayor Adams’ adviser Tim Pearson against shelter guards.

The City of New York has agreed to a significant settlement to resolve a lawsuit brought by three shelter guards who allege they were assaulted by Tim Pearson, a former senior adviser to Mayor Eric Adams, during an incident at a migrant shelter in 2023. According to documentation reviewed by Media News Source, the settlement will not be divided equally among the plaintiffs, with Terrence Rosenthal receiving the largest portion of 0,000. Angelica Weldon is set to receive 5,000, while Leesha Bell will be awarded ,000.

The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, not only named Pearson but also included Mayor Adams, the New York Police Department (NYPD), and two police officers as defendants. The scuffle purportedly began when guards denied Pearson entry to the shelter during what he claimed was a surprise safety inspection due to his failure to provide identification. In their allegations, the guards claimed that Pearson’s behavior escalated to physical violence, particularly against Bell, who reported being choked and subsequently shoved, resulting in her falling against a counter and losing her eyeglasses.

Notably, while the city administration has settled with the guards, Pearson is not part of this agreement. This allows the guards to continue their individual case against him in his personal capacity. All other defendants included in the settlement are dismissed from the case without any admission of liability, as indicated in the legal documents.

Pearson, who resigned from his role as public safety adviser in the fall of 2024 amidst questions related to a separate federal corruption investigation, has not faced any charges regarding these allegations. His legal representation has remained silent on the ongoing case. The city’s Law Department, which was responsible for defending the settled parties, expressed that settling this case was in the best interest of the city.

The incident garnered attention following a critical report from the Department of Investigation, which found that Pearson had abused his authority and misled NYPD officials regarding the altercation. The report, informed by body camera footage and witness accounts, detailed Pearson’s threats to the guards and his use of crude language throughout the confrontation.

This case adds to the growing list of legal troubles faced by Pearson, including several lawsuits from current and former NYPD officers alleging sexual harassment and professional retaliation. Despite these controversies, Mayor Adams has continued to support Pearson’s professional conduct.

The settlement marks a significant moment in the ongoing scrutiny of city officials amid rising tensions and public outcry regarding the management of migrant shelters in New York City.
