Nick Sortor arrested outside ICE building in Portland while promoting MAGA agenda.
A notable right-wing social media influencer was apprehended late Thursday night following an altercation outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Portland, Oregon. The Portland Police Bureau reported that Nick Sortor, age 27, from Washington, D.C., along with two local residents, faced charges of disorderly conduct after law enforcement intervened around 11:30 p.m.
Police had been monitoring the area due to escalating reports of disturbances near the ICE facility in South Portland. As tensions heightened, the bureau’s Rapid Response Team was deployed shortly before midnight and arrested Sortor alongside Son Mimi Yi, age 43, and Angela Davis, age 49, both from Oregon.
According to online court records, the three individuals were subsequently released without bond in the early hours of Friday morning. Following his release, Sortor took to social media platform X to criticize the Portland police, claiming that their actions validated his long-held assertions regarding the department’s alleged connections to extremist groups. He expressed his resolve to continue voicing his opinions, asserting that the arrest would not hinder his activities.
The timing of Sortor’s arrest coincides with heightened political rhetoric regarding law enforcement and immigration enforcement issues in Portland. This incident followed comments made by former President Donald Trump, who recently instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to allocate necessary troops to safeguard Portland’s ICE facilities, which he described as facing “siege” from groups he termed as domestic terrorists. Trump’s declaration included a willingness to utilize “full force if necessary” in the defense of these facilities.
In response to Trump’s assertions, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson firmly rejected the notion that additional troops were required in the city, labeling the need for such intervention as zero. Wilson’s swift rebuttal underscores the ongoing tensions between local governance and federal directives, particularly concerning policing and immigration enforcement.
This confrontation highlights the complex interplay of activism, law enforcement, and national politics, as divergent views on public safety and community rights continue to shape dialogue across the United States. As events develop, the implications of this incident may resonate far beyond the city limits of Portland, reflecting broader societal debates about law enforcement’s role and the challenges posed by extremism on both sides of the political spectrum.
