Nine arrested in San Bernardino for suspected theft of train cargo.

Nine individuals connected to the Sinaloa Cartel were apprehended by authorities in San Bernardino following a protracted investigation targeting a network allegedly involved in train cargo thefts. This announcement was made on Wednesday, October 28.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department led the investigation, which unearthed a coordinated scheme that reportedly targeted Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway trains. This criminal operation is believed to have resulted in stolen goods valued at several million dollars. According to a press release issued by the department, the investigation highlighted the organized nature of the crimes and the suspects’ alleged affiliations with one of Mexico’s most notorious drug trafficking organizations.

On October 16, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at a residence located on the 1200 block of East 35th Street in San Bernardino. The operation culminated in the arrest of nine individuals, all of whom are Mexican nationals aged between 18 and 43. During the search, authorities recovered goods amounting to over 3,000, including a variety of popular consumer products such as JBL speakers, Logitech computer accessories, items from Victoria’s Secret, as well as Nike and New Balance footwear.

In addition to the stolen merchandise, the authorities seized four semi-automatic handguns, a surveillance drone, cash, tools believed to be used for accessing train cargo containers, and a quantity of fentanyl thought to be intended for sale. Four vehicles associated with recent cargo thefts were also confiscated during the operation.

The suspects now face multiple charges, including conspiracy, theft of railroad property, and possession of a controlled substance while armed. The comprehensive nature of the evidence collected during the operation underscores the scale and sophistication of the criminal activity.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has stated that their investigation is ongoing, urging the community to provide any additional information regarding cargo theft incidents. This case highlights the broader implications of organized crime and its impact on local communities and industries, particularly in areas heavily reliant on rail transport for the movement of goods.

As the investigation continues, the authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to dismantle criminal networks that undermine public safety and economic stability.
