Authorities in New Jersey are investigating a disturbing case involving the murder and dismemberment of Harold “Hal” Miller Jr., allegedly carried out by three members of the same family. Prosecutors have described the incident as a meticulously planned and brutal assassination, raising alarm within the community.
The primary suspect, Everton Thomas, was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the Port of Buffalo earlier this month while attempting to flee to Canada. He is facing several serious charges, including murder, desecration of human remains, and tampering with physical evidence. The investigation into Miller’s disappearance revealed troubling details that led to his arrest.
In addition to Everton Thomas, his wife, 41-year-old Sherrie Parker, and their 22-year-old son, Deshawn Thomas, have also been charged, as prosecutors assert they assisted in the gruesome act. Each member of the family is facing similar charges related to the desecration of human remains and tampering with physical evidence.
Harold Miller was reported missing on June 14 after family members noticed his vehicle abandoned in Pennsauken. His last known appearance was on June 12, where he was seen playing cards with friends in Camden. The timeline highlights a concerning gap leading up to his disappearance, which investigators are currently scrutinizing.
During a recent court hearing, prosecutors indicated that they possess substantial evidence against all three suspects, including both physical and digital documentation. Notably, Miller’s cell phone was located inside his vehicle, and the last call made was to Everton Thomas. While Thomas confirmed receiving the call, he claimed that his last encounter with Miller was during their poker game on the night of June 11.
Additionally, surveillance footage captured Miller entering the Thomas residence on Baird Boulevard shortly before 11:30 AM on June 12, just before a gunshot was reported in the vicinity. Prosecutors suggest that Miller was murdered almost immediately after entering the house, underscoring the premeditated nature of the crime.
Following the alleged murder, the defendants reportedly purchased a chainsaw and various supplies, including heavy-duty bags, cleaning materials, and plastic sheeting, which they allegedly used to dismember Miller’s body. As of now, the victim’s remains have not been recovered, and the motive behind the murder remains unclear. The case has shocked the local community, raising concerns about violence within familial relationships.
