NYC man and his father charged with killing mother’s new boyfriend, with mother allegedly assisting in the crime, prosecutors report.

A recent tragic incident in a Manhattan housing complex has led to serious criminal charges against a family involved in the fatal shooting of a man. Khaeir Spencer, 20, and his father, Daniel Spencer, 47, have both entered not guilty pleas to a series of charges, including murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. In addition, Tetikwa Horace, 42, the mother of Khaeir Spencer, is facing charges of hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence.

The victim, David Brown, 43, was reportedly shot multiple times in the torso and leg on December 14 while in the apartment he shared with Horace in the NYCHA Polo Grounds Towers, a public housing development in Harlem. Despite swift medical assistance, Brown did not survive the injuries sustained during the attack.

Investigators allege that surveillance footage from the area captured vital moments leading up to the shooting. According to a criminal complaint, this footage showed Horace entering the apartment shortly before the attack, accompanied by her mother and stepfather. Notably, the video evidence also captured the two masked assailants entering the unit, who are believed to have been Khaeir and Daniel Spencer. The two men reportedly spent approximately two minutes inside the apartment before fleeing the scene.

During a police investigation, authorities observed that Brown emerged from the apartment appearing injured and requesting help shortly after the assailants left. The prosecutors indicated that Horace might have attempted to conceal evidence by allegedly removing a Ring camera from the door frame just moments before the shooting.

As the investigation unfolded, Daniel Spencer was arrested on January 16, and Khaeir Spencer was apprehended shortly thereafter, on March 4, in Sullivan County. Horace was arrested a couple of weeks later on March 17. Throughout questioning, Horace denied any involvement in the crime or the evidence tampering.

As the case moves forward, Daniel and Khaeir Spencer are currently being held without bail at Rikers Island, while Horace has been released. The actions surrounding this case have not only shocked the immediate community, but also underscored the tragic circumstances of violence that can occur within familial settings. The Manhattan District Attorney’s office has vowed to seek full accountability for the incident, highlighting the disturbing nature of these allegations.

This case continues to develop, and further details will be released as the legal proceedings progress.
