NYPD seeks couple for questioning in connection with fatal stabbing in the Bronx.
Authorities in the Bronx are seeking to question a man and a woman they believe may possess critical information regarding the fatal stabbing of 39-year-old Shamel Parnell. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. on June 2, 2025, outside a historic former NYPD stationhouse located on Bathgate Avenue near E. Tremont Avenue. In their effort to gather more information, police have released surveillance footage of the couple, appealing to the public for assistance in identifying them.
Shamel Parnell was reportedly involved in an altercation with his assailant before he was stabbed in the neck and chest. Despite the rapid response from emergency medical services, Parnell succumbed to his injuries approximately 25 minutes after being transported to St. Barnabas Hospital. Following the stabbing, the perpetrator fled the scene in a dark-colored cab, which was last spotted heading west on E. 179th Street. A knife was recovered at the site of the incident, further evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The search for Parnell’s assailant intensified when police released a surveillance image capturing the suspect. In addition to identifying this individual, law enforcement aims to gather any leads from the aforementioned couple, whose role in the incident remains under investigation.
Family members of Shamel Parnell are grappling with their loss as details surrounding the case continue to emerge. His mother, Sherri Parnell, expressed her deep sorrow following the tragedy, revealing that she had not seen her son for over a decade before his untimely death. The emotional toll of such a loss is compounded by the lack of closure for the grieving family.
The site of the stabbing—a former police station—was home to the NYPD’s 48th Precinct for many years and now serves as a Head Start program facility. This historic building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, recognized for its architectural significance.
Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, assuring that all tips will remain confidential as the investigation continues. The local community remains on edge as they await further developments in this disturbing case.
