NYPD seeks information on gunman suspected in Far Rockaway, Queens shooting that left one dead.
On Friday, law enforcement officials in New York City released surveillance images of a hooded suspect involved in a shooting incident that occurred in Far Rockaway, Queens. The violent encounter, which took place shortly after midnight on May 30, 2025, resulted in the death of one individual and left another injured.
According to police reports, the victims, identified as Johnny Ellis, 42, and a 36-year-old man, were walking towards the intersection of New Haven Avenue and Beach 19th Street when they were approached by two armed assailants dressed entirely in black. The suspects each brandished firearms and began shooting, striking Ellis twice in the chest and twice in the stomach, while the younger victim was hit once in the back as he attempted to flee the scene.
Emergency medical personnel transported Ellis to Jamaica Hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The other victim also received treatment at the same hospital and has since been reported in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that at least six shots were fired during the incident, yet it remains unclear who was the intended target of the attack. Following the shooting, the suspects fled westward along New Haven Avenue.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with this case. Detectives are actively canvassing the area for further evidence and have reviewed surveillance footage capturing one of the suspects walking near the shooting location. The released images aim to solicit assistance from the public, with the hope that someone may recognize the suspect.
