Among these tiny residences is the home of Ginny Chappell, a retired nurse who has masterfully blended elegant holiday decor with the casual ambiance of the beach.

Chappell, a longtime admirer of Dollhouse Row, has fond memories of serendipitously discovering the iconic street during her younger years. Built in 1927, these houses have long held a special place in her heart. After years of dedication and patience, Chappell finally realized her dream of owning an 800-square-foot home on the celebrated street.

Prior to this, her journey toward homeownership led her to a much smaller residence—measuring only 400 square feet—after her realtor informed her that homes in Dollhouse Row rarely went on the market. However, a shift in fortune occurred when, two months after a previous deal fell through, Chappell received unexpected news: a home on Dollhouse Row was to be listed for sale.

Now, her residence—affectionately referred to as “Grayce” by former owners—features a cozy layout that accommodates both her and her two mini-Dachshunds, Liliana and Romeo. With a comfortable primary bedroom and a spare room for guests, her home is a testament to thoughtful design and space utilization. Key features include an open concept first floor with an inviting kitchen and family area, while the second floor offers two bedrooms and a conveniently located laundry space.

Despite its small size, the home exudes warmth and character, enhanced by intentional decor choices that incorporate local artistry and elements of nature. Chappell’s holiday preparations range from crafting a well-curated coffee and hot chocolate station adorned with thematic blue and white mugs to displaying a pre-lit tree topped with a whimsical gingerbread man.

In preserving the beach aesthetic, Chappell collects beautiful seashells that decorate her windows and utilizes driftwood in her decor, showcasing a philosophy of embracing imperfection.

While her home may not facilitate large gatherings, it remains a popular stop on Ocean City’s Holiday House Tour, attracting approximately 500 visitors annually. Chappell’s neighborly spirit shines through as she hosts small holiday gatherings, sharing charcuterie boards and laughter with friends and family. Upholding the history and charm of Dollhouse Row is a shared commitment among the residents, who refer to themselves as “the cottage keepers.” This community effort prioritizes restoration over demolition, ensuring that this iconic street retains its unique character for future generations.
