Peloton recalls over 830,000 bikes due to fall risk; two injuries reported.
Peloton, the acclaimed fitness and media company headquartered in New York City, has announced a significant recall affecting over 830,000 of its Original Series Bike+ models due to potential safety risks. The recall, which the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission made public on Thursday, addresses issues with the seat post assembly that could lead to breakage during use, thereby posing a risk of falls and other injuries to riders.
The affected models are identified by the model number PL02, with serial numbers beginning with the letter “T.” These bikes were manufactured between December 2019 and July 2022 and were distributed widely across the United States and Canada. Peloton officials reported that they have received three confirmed instances of seat post failures during exercise sessions, resulting in two injuries linked to falls. Notably, there have been no reported incidents among the approximately 44,800 units sold in Canada.
With a retail price of around ,495, the Original Series Bike+ has been available for purchase since January 2020 and remained on sale through April 2025 in various outlets, including Dick’s Sporting Goods stores, on the official Peloton website, and through major online retailers such as Amazon and eBay.
In response to this safety concern, Peloton has urged users to immediately cease using the recalled bikes and to reach out to the company for a complimentary seat post replacement. This replacement can be self-installed by customers, ensuring a swift resolution to the issue at hand.
This recall is not Peloton’s first experience with such safety challenges. In May 2023, the firm voluntarily recalled original Peloton model bikes sold between January 2018 and May 2023 due to similar seat post issues. At that time, Peloton had identified 35 reported cases of seat post breakage out of just over 2 million units sold, which included 13 reports of injuries ranging from wrist fractures to lacerations and bruises.
The company is committed to maintaining safety standards and urges affected customers to act promptly to mitigate any risk associated with the use of their bicycles. Peloton continues to navigate these challenges while focusing on improving customer safety and satisfaction.
