Pennsylvania driver faces attempted murder charges for intentionally hitting two police officers.
A Pennsylvania man has been charged with attempted murder following an alarming incident involving two police officers in Plymouth Meeting. Court records indicate that 21-year-old Dalton Lee Janiczek, a resident of Lower Gwynedd, was apprehended on Friday and faces charges that include attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, and related offenses.
The series of events unfolded shortly after 12:30 PM on Friday, when Plymouth Township police received reports concerning a vehicle being operated erratically. Responding to the call, an officer soon located a white 2021 Mercedes G-Wagon in the parking area of a Double Tree Hotel on Fountain Road.
As the officer positioned his vehicle behind the suspect’s SUV, Janiczek allegedly reversed and collided with the police car. When the officer exited his vehicle, Janiczek purportedly aimed his vehicle directly at the officer, prompting the officer to return fire and sustain injuries during the confrontation. Despite being shot, Janiczek reportedly continued to maneuver through the parking lot.
While the officer was attending to his wounds, Janiczek re-approached and struck the officer three additional times, as described by Tom Nolan, deputy chief of detectives for the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. In a harrowing account, Nolan stated that as the officer attempted to apply a makeshift tourniquet, the suspect drove toward him again, injuring him a second time. Janiczek then reversed his vehicle to conduct two more intentional collisions with the officer.
Upon the arrival of backup officers, Janiczek allegedly engaged another officer by ramming his vehicle head-on into a second patrol car. Both officers involved in the incident were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Upon his arrest, Janiczek allegedly issued threats to one of the officers, warning, “Put me in the car or I will kill you,” according to court documents quoted in a local news report. He is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to return to court on November 4.
Plymouth Meeting is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia, a well-known area with a rich history that attracts residents and visitors alike. The troubling events of Friday have raised concerns about officer safety and the challenges law enforcement faces in handling volatile situations. The ongoing investigation is being closely monitored as authorities seek to bring further clarity to this alarming incident.
