Pennsylvania governor’s mansion security review completed, but findings remain unreleased.

An independent review examining the security weaknesses that allowed for a significant arson attack on the governor’s mansion in Harrisburg has concluded, but the findings are being withheld from public scrutiny. The incident, which transpired on April 13, involved an assailant, identified as Cody Balmer, who allegedly breached protective barriers and ignited a fire at the residence in what appeared to be an attack aimed at Governor Josh Shapiro and his family.

Security consultant Jeffrey B. Miller, who conducted the assessment, clarified that the sensitive nature of their findings necessitates confidentiality for security reasons. Miller, who has an extensive background including serving as the Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police from 2003 to 2008 and later heading security operations for the National Football League, was brought in under an emergency contract valued at approximately ,489 to review existing security protocols and systems.

The assessment included a thorough site visit, where various security measures in place on the night of the incident were scrutinized. Factors evaluated encompassed personnel deployment, training, surveillance capabilities, fire suppression systems, as well as emergency preparedness plans and drills. Initial responses from the state police indicated an internal review process, but as concerns grew, discussions emerged about the necessity for a formal investigation.

Meanwhile, the state Department of General Services has authorized a ,000 contract to enhance the mansion’s existing wireless security system, which sustained damage during the arson.
