A New Jersey man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a dog for which he was caring. The incident involves Ruby, a one-year-old French Bulldog, and has prompted significant legal repercussions for the accused, 56-year-old Jeffrey Lentz.
The Berkeley Township Police Department received a distressing report from Ruby’s owners, who stated that the dog had died shortly after being entrusted to Lentz on October 3. Following the owners’ notification regarding Ruby’s injuries, authorities initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dog’s demise.
Upon further inquiries and after a thorough veterinary examination, it was revealed that Ruby had suffered a gunshot wound to the jaw. X-rays confirmed the severity of the injury, leading investigators to conduct an in-depth probe. The New Jersey Department of Agriculture’s Animal Health Diagnostics Lab in Trenton conducted a necropsy on the dog, which provided essential evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Investigators concluded that Lentz had unlawfully discharged a firearm at the dog, leading to its death.
