Philadelphia teen arrested for the abduction and rape of a 12-year-old girl, according to police reports.
A 17-year-old male, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended on Thursday in connection to the alleged abduction and sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred while the child was sleeping in the backseat of a stolen vehicle in Hunting Park, Philadelphia. Authorities have confirmed that the teen will face charges of rape and related offenses.
According to police reports, the alarming event unfolded on Saturday evening, shortly after the girl’s mother left a 2010 Ford Taurus idling outside Max’s Steaks at the intersection of Germantown and West Erie Avenues at approximately 9:30 PM. The suspect is accused of taking control of the vehicle, which had the child inside, while her mother was momentarily away.
Around twenty minutes later, law enforcement located the young girl approximately half a mile from where she was abducted, at the intersection of Broad Street and West Roosevelt Boulevard. She had managed to call for help using an iPad, during which she disclosed to the responding officers that she had been raped. Captain Margo Alleyne-Parker, the commanding officer of the Special Victims Unit, has been overseeing the investigation into this distressing case.
The investigation took a significant turn on Monday when an automated license plate reader identified the stolen vehicle on the 5400 block of Poplar Street. Police subsequently recovered the vehicle, which contained items the victim had reported were still inside it.
Further forensic analysis revealed the presence of the suspect’s DNA within the vehicle, providing crucial evidence linking him to the crime. The young girl later identified the suspect from a photographic lineup.
A spokesperson for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has refrained from commenting on whether the teenager will be prosecuted as an adult. Meanwhile, Captain Alleyne-Parker remarked on the girl’s fortitude and intelligence, noting that she is recovering but continuing to cope with the emotional aftermath of this tragic event.
