Following a significant recognition from the New York Times, which placed Mawn and Meetinghouse on its prestigious annual best-restaurants list, Provenance, a fine-dining establishment in Philadelphia, has recently secured its spot on Bon Appetit’s esteemed best new restaurants list. This accolade was bestowed upon Provenance and 19 other exceptional dining venues across the United States, including eateries in cities such as Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Honolulu.

Provenance, curated by Chef Nicholas Bazik, is located in Headhouse Square and is characterized by its modern French tasting menu that has garnered attention for its unique presentation and culinary creativity. Bon Appetit editor Amiel Stanek lauded the restaurant, describing the dining experience as one that compels guests to suspend time, likening it to the intricacies and precision of a Formula 1 racing vehicle. This praise underscores Provenance’s ambition to offer a distinctive culinary journey that transcends the ordinary dining experience.

The restaurant reflects meticulous planning and dedication, having taken nearly two years to construct. It features 25 seats and is outfitted with a bespoke Molteni stove, a well-appointed wine cellar, and an exclusive chef’s counter that accommodates 11 patrons. This setup allows diners to witness Chef Bazik and his team as they craft intricate dishes, including a striking spot prawn adorned with gold leaf and encased in a savory jellied chogochujang.

Chef Bazik has long aspired to capture a Michelin star, a quest that was on his horizon even before the guide announced its impending arrival in Philadelphia. His vision is to create a dining space that offers an experience that is truly one-of-a-kind. He envisions Provenance as a haven for culinary exploration, one that does not cater to daily diners or regulars but offers a unique opportunity designed for special occasions.

Reflecting this ethos, Provenance’s tasting menu comprises between 20 to 25 courses priced at 5, exclusive of tax, tip, and beverages. For couples, the total cost can extend to approximately 0 to 0, presenting a premium experience for those seeking a distinctive culinary adventure.

Despite receiving a mixed review from an Inquirer critic last October, Provenance has nonetheless achieved acclaim from other notable sources, including Philadelphia Magazine and the restaurant review platform The Infatuation.
