Police confirm no evidence that the killing of actor Jonathan Joss, known for “King of the Hill,” was a hate crime.

Texas authorities are currently probing the fatal shooting of actor Jonathan Joss, recognized for his roles in the animated series “King of the Hill” and the sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” As investigations continue, officials reported a lack of evidence to support claims that his death was a hate crime. Joss, 59, was visiting the site of his former residence located south of San Antonio when he was shot on Sunday evening.

Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers found Joss lying in the roadway. They attempted life-saving measures; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter. Witnesses have informed investigators that prior to the gunfire, Joss was engaged in an argument with a neighbor, identified as Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez. Alvarez has since been arrested on murder charges and was still in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.

The authorities’ statement clarified that, despite speculations and online discussions suggesting that Joss’s murder was motivated by hate, there is currently no evidence to substantiate such claims. Law enforcement emphasized their commitment to thoroughly investigate all angles of the case, stating that allegations are taken very seriously. Their investigation included an extensive review of available information to determine the motives behind this tragic incident.

This clarification comes in light of comments made by Joss’s husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, who took to social media to recount the events leading to the shooting. De Gonzales shared that the couple was collecting mail from their previously owned home, which had tragically been destroyed following two years of threats from local individuals promising to burn it down. He claimed they were subsequently confronted by a man who directed violent homophobic slurs towards them before shooting Joss, who allegedly acted heroically to save de Gonzales’s life by pushing him out of harm’s way.

Joss is remembered for his diverse contributions to television, particularly his role as Chief Ken Hotate on “Parks and Recreation” and the character John Redcorn on “King of the Hill.” His talent also extended to appearances in other popular series such as “Ray Donovan,” “Walker, Texas Ranger,” and “Tulsa King,” along with various film projects.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward, ensuring that the case receives the attention it deserves. The community and fans alike remain in shock over the loss of the acclaimed actor, as they await further developments in this tragic event.
