Initial investigations indicate that the officer, a two-year veteran of the Camden County Police Department, was struck in his bulletproof vest, with evidence suggesting that the bullet may have ricocheted and caused injury to his arm. Details emerged that the officer sustained bruising on his chest from the impact of the bullet, indicating that the vest did provide some protection. On the night of the incident, the police officers were conducting patrols in Camden, which is strategically positioned across the Delaware River from Philadelphia.
