Police seek serial slasher after three unprovoked attacks in Brooklyn within 24 hours.
Police are actively searching for a suspect believed to be responsible for a series of random slashing attacks in Brooklyn over the weekend, escalating public concern regarding safety in the subway system. The incidents began early Saturday morning when a 37-year-old man was attacked on a Manhattan-bound Q train in Flatbush around 6:30 a.m. The attacker approached from behind, inflicting a severe laceration to the left side of the victim’s face.
Following the assault, the victim exited the train at Church Avenue and promptly notified law enforcement, while the assailant reportedly remained on the subway until it reached the next station, as per police reports.
In a troubling turn of events, the same suspect perpetrated two additional slashing attacks within 24 hours. The first occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Saturday when he targeted a 53-year-old man near the intersection of Foster and New York Avenues, roughly a mile and a half from the initial attack location. The following morning, at approximately 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, the suspect struck again, this time slashing a 56-year-old man just a block away from the latest attack, near Newkirk and New York Avenues.
All three victims were taken to Kings County Hospital, where they were reported to be in stable condition, according to police. The NYPD has since intensified its search efforts, deploying officers throughout the Flatbush area to locate the suspect.
Authorities have described the assailant as wearing a navy blue jacket, black shorts, and white sneakers. Security footage of the individual has been released in hopes of garnering tips from the public. Officers are urging anyone with information on the suspect to contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS, emphasizing that all calls will remain confidential.
These incidents come on the heels of other violent occurrences in the subway system, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and security for commuters. Just over a week ago, a violent altercation on a rush-hour D train left a 51-year-old man hospitalized after being stabbed in the back by an individual later identified as Justice Jackson, a man with a significant criminal history. He was apprehended the following day and has been detained at Rikers Island since then.
The recent spate of slashing attacks has heightened calls from the community for improved safety measures in public transportation, prompting urgent discussions among law enforcement and city officials regarding the security of subway systems.
