Qantas announces all seats available as reward seats in new Points Planes initiative for 2027.

Qantas Airways has announced an ambitious program for 2027, introducing dedicated “Points Planes” that will operate monthly, significantly enhancing the availability of Classic Reward bookings. This initiative aims to open every available seat on select flights, including premium cabins, thereby creating ample opportunities for frequent flyers to utilize their accumulated points. The initial release features popular travel destinations such as Tokyo in January, coinciding with the snow season, and Paris in February.

This year-long program is set to add thousands of Classic Reward seats on various domestic and international routes, addressing the frequent challenge of limited reward availability that often shapes travel plans for members. Qantas has commenced bookings for the first ten return services, which encompass 20 flights that include Hobart during the school holidays, alongside other international locations such as Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Vancouver slated for subsequent series.

The standout feature of the Points Planes program is the comprehensive availability of seats that will be bookable as Classic Rewards. Travellers interested in premium cabin travel can take advantage of this unique opportunity, as every available seat on designated flights will be released for booking, mitigating the typical constraints of finding reward availability within cash-paid seat allocations. Selected flights will be operated using Qantas’ Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 aircraft, with First Class options available on certain routes.

In terms of availability, the following routes have been highlighted in the first release:

– Sydney to Paris via Singapore starts at 63,500 points for Economy, 124,700 for Premium Economy, and 166,300 for Business.
– Sydney or Melbourne to Tokyo begins at 36,200 points for Economy and increases to 98,400 for Business.
– Brisbane to Tokyo offers rates starting at 29,000 points for Economy.
– Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane to Hobart including various pricing options for respective travel classes.

While this initiative introduces additional seat availability during designated travel windows, including peak seasons, travelers must align their plans with the specific dates of the flights. Committed to increasing capacity in response to heightened member demand for travel redemption, Qantas is determined to provide seamless booking through its app and website.

Overall, this yearlong Points Planes initiative marks a significant expansion in Qantas’ loyalty offerings, underscoring the airline’s responsiveness to the evolving needs of its frequent flyers. As more members accumulate points through various partnerships, their ability to redeem these for desirable travel experiences remains a priority for the airline, ensuring that ample seating is available when desired. With a calendar chock-full of potential travel dates and destinations, Qantas is poised to maintain a competitive edge in the airline loyalty landscape while also fostering a culture of reward use among its membership base.
