Renee Nicole Good, a 36-year-old Minneapolis resident, was fatally shot by an ICE agent, Jonathan Ross, during a confrontation in the city’s streets last week. According to reports from local authorities, Good sustained multiple gunshot wounds, with four distinct injuries resulting from the incident. The city’s fire department indicated that she was struck twice in the right side of her chest, once in her left forearm, and another shot resulted in severe injury with tissue protrusion on the left side of her head. Upon the arrival of first responders, Good was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of her maroon Honda Pilot, with blood also observed leaking from her left ear.
Efforts to revive Good began immediately. Paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) en route to the hospital, but unfortunately, these life-saving measures were ultimately halted around 10:30 a.m., as reported by the Tribune.
Emergency calls commenced shortly after the shooting, with reports flooding in around 9:38 a.m. on January 7. One concerned caller informed a dispatcher about the presence of multiple ICE agents, implying that the shooting occurred because Good allegedly refused to comply with demands to exit her vehicle.
Video footage of the incident depicts an officer approaching Good’s SUV while it was stationary in the road, instructing her to open the door. As the vehicle began to move forward, another officer discharged their firearm at close range before quickly retreating from the scene.
Since the shooting, unrest has escalated in Minneapolis, with numerous demonstrations reflecting public anger toward the federal government’s intensifying immigration enforcement activities in the region. City and state officials have urged community calm while simultaneously criticizing the significant deployment of federal agents, especially as the presence of 3,000 ICE agents in Minnesota starkly contrasts with the roughly 600 sworn officers in the Minneapolis Police Department.
