Ringo Starr requests script changes from filmmaker Sam Mendes for Beatles biopic.

The forthcoming Beatles biopic, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sam Mendes, is poised to be a significant cinematic event, especially with contributions from Ringo Starr, the band’s legendary drummer. As one of the two surviving members of the iconic group, Starr met with Mendes earlier this year to review the ambitious four-part film, providing valuable feedback on its script and character portrayals.

Starr, portrayed in the film by Irish actor Barry Keoghan, has expressed particular concerns regarding the representation of his first marriage to Maureen Starkey Tigrett. In an effort to ensure authenticity, Starr meticulously reviewed the script line-by-line, detailing his perspectives and offering extensive notes to Mendes. He indicated that while the screenwriter possesses a commendable reputation, the script did not accurately reflect the dynamics of his relationship with Maureen. Starr emphasized the importance of portraying a more truthful depiction of their marriage, stating that certain narrative elements were inconsistent with their real-life experiences.

Ringo and Maureen were married in 1965, welcoming three children over the course of their union before their eventual separation in 1975. Tragically, Maureen passed away from leukemia in 1994. Reflecting on the script’s revisions, Starr expressed that he is now “much more satisfied” with how he is depicted and extended wishes of “peace and love” to Mendes for the project’s success.

The star-studded cast also includes Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Paul Mescal portraying Paul McCartney. This ensemble aims to bring to life the rich history and artistry of The Beatles, currently referred to as “The Beatles — A Four Film Cinematic Event.” This extensive project showcases the talents of award-winning writers such as Jez Butterworth, Peter Straughan, and Jack Thorne, who are all collaborative contributors to the screenplay.

Set to premiere in 2028, this biopic promises to delight fans of the legendary band while striving for historical accuracy. With Starr’s direct involvement, audiences can anticipate a nuanced portrayal of one of music history’s most influential groups, encapsulating both their artistic legacy and personal stories. As anticipation builds, the film awaits its opportunity to honor the Fab Four’s remarkable journey.
