Robber fires gun inside Brooklyn post office, but no injuries reported.
A robbery attempt unfolded on Monday afternoon when an individual armed with a firearm attempted to rob the Midwood branch of the U.S. Postal Service in Brooklyn, according to local law enforcement sources. The incident occurred around 1:10 PM at the location situated on Coney Island Avenue near Avenue I. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Witnesses indicate that the suspect, who was clad in a blue helmet and a blue backpack, entered the post office and confronted a 37-year-old female patron. He brandished a gun and demanded cash from the teller. In a tense turn of events, the teller refused to comply with the robber’s demands. In frustration, the suspect fired a shot, reportedly aimed at the door of the post office, before fleeing the scene.
Following the botched robbery, the suspect made his escape on a black moped, traveling north on Coney Island Avenue. Law enforcement officials collected ballistic evidence from the scene to aid in their ongoing investigation into the incident.
Shortly after the first robbery attempt, approximately 12 minutes later, the same individual was reportedly involved in another attempted robbery at a Pay-O-Matic check cashing service located at the intersection of Utica Avenue and Glenwood Road in East Flatbush. However, the suspect was once again unsuccessful in this endeavor. While attempting to flee the scene, he crashed his moped outside the check cashing service.
Police responded promptly and apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident at the Pay-O-Matic. As of now, charges against the individual are pending, and further investigations are underway.
