Rowan University starts fundraising campaign aimed at raising 0 million.
Rowan University, a prominent institution in New Jersey, has officially entered the public phase of its ambitious 0 million fundraising campaign, aimed at enhancing support for student scholarships, advancing research initiatives, and continuing development of its West campus. The announcement was made on Friday, highlighting the university’s commitment to improving educational offerings and student experiences.
The fundraising campaign follows the successful completion of Rowan’s previous fundraising effort, which raised 0 million—the largest in the university’s history—just four years prior. According to Rowan President Ali A. Houshmand, the institution has already secured approximately 0 million toward its current goal. Notable contributions include an million donation from Virtua Health and a million gift from Jerry and Melanie Shreiber, which will support the newly established veterinary school that opened its doors this fall.
With only million left to raise by the campaign’s conclusion in June, the university is optimistic about surpassing its fundraising target. Historical trends indicate that many campaigns tend to exceed their financial objectives, offering a promising outlook as the final stretch approaches.
Rowan’s growth trajectory aligns with broader positive trends in enrollment, having nearly doubled its student population over the past 12 years. The total enrollment for the 2024-2025 academic year surpassed 24,200, marking a significant achievement for the university. Despite facing challenges such as a decline in international student enrollment attributed to visa processing delays and travel restrictions implemented during the previous political administration, overall enrollment remains robust.
The funds from this campaign are earmarked to elevate the student experience through the establishment of scholarships, wellness programs, and enhanced career development initiatives. President Houshmand emphasized the importance of creating a safe and nurturing educational environment, where students can pursue their studies and express their views freely.
The campaign also underscores Rowan University’s focus on fostering research and innovation, particularly at the intersection of medicine, engineering, and the sciences. Plans for the West campus include the development of a wellness village on a 220-acre site adjacent to Inspira Health’s Mullica Hill campus, which is anticipated to take approximately a decade to realize. This initiative will feature a mix of housing and therapeutic activities, alongside proposals for a manufacturing hub and a new nursing school, which could house Rowan’s osteopathic medicine program.
Houshmand estimates that development in this area could reach several billion dollars over the next decade, marking a significant investment in the future of the university and the surrounding community. The ambitious campaign, coupled with ongoing growth and development initiatives, positions Rowan University as a vital contributor to education and economic development in New Jersey.
