Santiago Canyon College partners with Chapman University to establish 14 new transfer pathways for students.

Santiago Canyon College (SCC) has announced a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for its students. The institution has established a new transfer agreement with Chapman University, introducing the Santiago Canyon College to Chapman University Pathway Program. This program offers a structured transfer route into 14 distinct degree pathways, thereby facilitating a seamless transition for students aspiring to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

Approved by the Rancho Santiago Community College District Board of Trustees on March 23, this agreement guarantees admission for SCC students into 14 designated majors at Chapman University, contingent upon meeting specific academic criteria. This marks the second collaboration between SCC and Chapman; their initial partnership, formed in 2019, focused on providing SCC students with a pathway into Chapman’s Integrated Educational Studies bachelor’s program—designed to prepare future educators. The success of this earlier agreement set the stage for the latest collaboration.

The degree pathways included in this partnership encompass a variety of Bachelor of Science degrees, including biochemistry, biological sciences, chemistry, environmental science and policy, mathematics, physics, health sciences, accounting and business administration. Additionally, Bachelor of Arts degrees available through this agreement feature psychology, communication studies, global communication, world languages, strategic communication, and economics.

This agreement seeks to alleviate the uncertainties often associated with transferring to four-year institutions by providing a clear roadmap for academic progression from community college to university. Research indicates that when students possess a well-defined pathway for transferring, they are more likely to achieve both successful transfers and degree completion.

SCC’s administration expresses enthusiasm about the new initiative as it aligns with the institution’s mission to foster equitable access to higher education, especially for students from families without college backgrounds. The agreement not only streamlines the transfer process but also positions students for potential merit-based scholarships and institutional aid at Chapman University, significantly reducing the financial burden of pursuing a degree.

The selection of the 14 degree pathways was meticulous, ensuring that SCC’s coursework aligns with Chapman’s requirements. This collaborative effort reflects a longstanding articulation between the two institutions, with plans for evaluating additional degree options in the future.

Furthermore, the agreement underscores both institutions’ commitment to community engagement. Through SCC’s Early College/Dual Enrollment initiative with the Orange Unified School District, local students can accumulate college credits during their middle and high school years, paving the way for future enrollment at SCC followed by a seamless transition to Chapman.

The program is set to commence in the fall 2026 term, with SCC counselors and Transfer Center staff prepared to assist students in navigating the program requirements. By fostering collaboration and aligning academic expectations, this agreement aims to strengthen student success and broaden access to higher education within the community.

The initiative highlights the dedication of both SCC and Chapman University to create pathways that empower students, ultimately enriching the academic environment and fostering a culture of success.
