Second suspect apprehended in shooting incident involving Customs and Border Patrol officer in Manhattan.

A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of an off-duty U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer during a failed robbery in Upper Manhattan, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Monday. This incident, which took place late Saturday night, has drawn significant attention due to its severity and the circumstances surrounding it.

The officer, a 42-year-old man, remains hospitalized and is reportedly fighting for his life. The shooting occurred around 11:50 PM in Fort Washington Park, where the officer was seated by W. 178th Street with a female companion when the assailants approached on a moped. According to law enforcement sources, two men attempted to initiate a robbery, leading to a confrontation that ended with the officer sustaining a gunshot wound to the face.

In the aftermath, Homeland Security released a video showing the suspects approaching the victim, armed and ready to commit the crime. The footage captures a brief struggle, after which one of the robbers discharged his weapon at the officer before fleeing. The officer responded by returning fire, reportedly hitting one of the suspects, who later sought medical assistance at a nearby hospital.

The newly apprehended suspect, a 22-year-old individual from the Dominican Republic residing in the Bronx, was taken into custody on an immigration warrant in Queens shortly after the shooting. Charges against him are reportedly forthcoming. The first suspect, identified as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, is a 21-year-old Dominican national with a criminal history and is currently in the U.S. illegally. Mora Nunez is also hospitalized and has not yet been charged.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into this case, examining the circumstances that led to this violent encounter. The incident highlights ongoing concerns related to public safety and crime in urban areas, particularly involving firearms. Homeland Security officials underscored their commitment to ensuring that justice is served for the injured officer, while also addressing issues related to illegal immigration and crime within communities.

As the investigation continues, both suspects remain under scrutiny, and further details regarding forthcoming legal actions and charges are anticipated. Media News Source will continue to follow this developing story closely.
