South Jersey pre-kindergarten aide charged with sexual assault and child pornography in new case.
A pre-kindergarten teacher’s aide has been charged with aggravated sexual assault and the manufacturing of child pornography, as announced by Cape May Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland. Shaun M. Stebbins, 44, of Somers Point, is facing serious criminal allegations stemming from incidents involving young children, which were initially brought to light by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office earlier this year.
The initial case involves multiple alleged victims, specifically four siblings, whose reported abuse began when one of them was just five years old. The children, now in their teens and early twenties, are central to the prosecution’s case against Stebbins. The severity of the charges escalated after authorities discovered additional evidence indicating that crimes also occurred in Cape May County.
Evidence obtained during the investigation revealed that Stebbins possessed numerous images and videos of students from Woodbine Elementary School, where he was employed as a teacher’s aide from February 2022 until his arrest on March 29, 2026. In a new round of charges filed against him on Friday, Stebbins faces 29 counts of manufacturing child pornography as well as five counts of aggravated sexual assault, along with additional related offenses. He is currently being held in custody at the Atlantic County Correctional Facility.
The Woodbine School District has not yet issued a public statement, as attempts to reach a spokesperson were unsuccessful. However, earlier reports indicated that Adrienne Breitinger, the district’s superintendent, confirmed that Stebbins was employed through a staffing agency. Following his initial arrest, she stated that the district promptly sought a replacement to ensure safety and stability within the classroom environment.
In a broader context, Sutherland emphasized the paramount importance of protecting vulnerable children and ensuring accountability for those who perpetrate harm against them. He reiterated his commitment to seeking justice for victims of such heinous crimes. The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office has urged anyone with additional information regarding this case to contact their Special Victims Unit or submit an anonymous tip through their website.
As this case continues to develop, the community remains on alert, reflecting the ongoing challenges of safeguarding children in educational settings. The legal proceedings ahead promise to shed further light on the circumstances surrounding these disturbing allegations.
