Stabbing victim, just weeks from fatherhood, signaled for an ambulance, but assistance arrived too late.

A tragic incident unfolded in Brooklyn, New York, when a 30-year-old man from Queens, Charles Iroh, died from stab wounds after he flagged down an ambulance in a desperate attempt for help. Iroh was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital around 1:20 a.m. on July 20, 2025, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the medical facility. At the time of his passing, Iroh was just weeks away from welcoming his first child, a daughter, with his pregnant wife.

According to police reports, Iroh sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest and back. Tragically, he was unable to provide specific details about the circumstances leading to his injuries before he passed away. His wife, who is currently in the third trimester of her pregnancy, expressed her grief over the loss, emphasizing the profound void that will be felt in their daughter’s life.

Iroh’s wife shared that her husband was looking forward to fatherhood and was actively involved in the preparations for their child’s arrival. Employed as a community director at a local school, Iroh was known for his love of basketball video games and entertaining YouTube clips. He eagerly attended every doctor’s appointment and was working diligently on renovations in their apartment.

The couple intended to create a nurturing family environment, with Iroh expressing a strong desire to embrace his role as a father. Notably, on the night he was fatally stabbed, he wore Crocs emblazoned with the phrase “#1 Dad,” which served as a poignant reminder of his excitement about impending fatherhood.

As the investigation unfolded, Iroh’s wife reported him missing after he failed to return home. Officers who responded to her report identified Iroh through a photo she provided, as he had no identification with him at the time of his hospitalization.

Compounding the tragedy, Iroh’s wife stated that he had no known connections to the Canarsie area, where he was attacked. The couple’s home in Queens was far removed from the location of the incident. She described Iroh as a gentle soul, underscoring the inexplicability of such violence against him.

The community is grappling with this disturbing incident, raising questions about safety and the factors that contribute to violent crime. As investigators work to uncover the motives behind this senseless act, friends and family mourn the loss of a man who was preparing to embark on the journey of fatherhood, now taken too soon.
