Furthermore, 92% of respondents support the installation of additional air monitors near fracking sites to better assess cumulative air pollution from multiple industrial sources.
Distrust towards the fracking industry appears to be prevalent among Pennsylvanians, with 58% indicating skepticism about the companies’ ability to provide accurate reports on the environmental and health impacts of their operations. This skepticism is compounded by reports of frequent violations by companies like CNX, which have faced over 540 regulatory infractions in the past four years.
Given the persistent failures and unfulfilled promises from the fracking sector, there is a growing call for Governor Shapiro to prioritize initiatives that counter pollution from the gas industry. Advocates emphasize that a sustainable approach to energy, including a shift towards solar and wind power, can protect public health while simultaneously stimulating the economy. Surveys indicate that a substantial majority of Pennsylvanians support investments in renewable energy over continued development of fossil fuel infrastructure.
