Suspect arrested for November stabbing of Bronx livery cab driver during road rage incident.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a Bronx livery cab driver that occurred last month, according to local police reports. Dominick Darin, 56, surrendered to authorities at the 43rd Precinct stationhouse on Wednesday. He faces assault charges related to the incident involving 39-year-old driver Osei Kusi.

Kusi was discovered unconscious and gravely injured in his Toyota SUV on the street in Clason Point around 2:30 AM on November 26. A passerby noticed the vehicle running while Kusi was found bloodied inside. The investigation indicates that Kusi had charged his vehicle at a nearby station and was driving home when the altercation with Darin erupted.

Witnesses suggest that the confrontation stemmed from an incident of road rage a few miles away from where Kusi was eventually found. Police have reported that, during the exchange, Kusi was stabbed multiple times—at least seven wounds were noted—following a heated exchange of words. He attempted to drive away from the scene but ultimately lost consciousness shortly after.

Osei Kusi managed to contact a friend for assistance prior to losing consciousness. Emergency medical personnel promptly transported him to Jacobi Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery. Initially reported in critical condition, Kusi’s status was later updated to stable following the procedure to address stab wounds to his back and abdomen.

Fernando Mateo, a spokesperson for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, expressed outrage over the violence in this incident, citing Kusi’s treatment as unacceptable. Mateo described the confrontation as a significant escalation from routine road rage to a severe and life-threatening attack.

Kusi’s family and friends have characterized him as a peaceful and hardworking individual. His uncle, a fellow taxi driver, described him as quiet and unassuming, emphasizing that he was not one to attract trouble.

Darin’s arraignment is pending in Bronx Criminal Court, and further developments in the case are expected as the investigation continues. This incident underscores ongoing concerns over road rage and the dangers faced by professional drivers in urban environments.

Local authorities continue to urge the public to report incidents of violence and road rage to prevent such occurrences in the future. The community remains vigilant and hopeful for justice in this alarming case.
