Suspect identified in 2024 shooting death of 24-year-old man in Brooklyn.
The New York Police Department has identified a suspect in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man outside his Brooklyn residence more than a year ago. Authorities are now seeking the public’s assistance in locating the alleged perpetrator, Jahmal Grant, age 38. Grant is wanted for the murder of Maurice Boodie, who was shot on Strauss Street near Newport Street in the Brownsville neighborhood during the early hours of May 12, 2024.
According to police reports, Grant allegedly shot Boodie in the chest and the right leg at approximately 12:10 a.m. on the night of the incident. Following the gunfire, medics transported Boodie to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around an hour later, underscoring the tragic outcome of the shooting. Local friends and relatives have fondly remembered Boodie, referring to him as “Mo” and emphasizing his positive character, with statements made by family members highlighting his nature as a “very good person.”
While specifics surrounding the motive for the shooting remain unclear, it has been confirmed that Grant was residing just around the corner from the victim at the time of the incident. Notably, this violent event occurred approximately half a block away from the scene of a double homicide at a nearby West Indian restaurant that took place on October 27, 2022. In that earlier incident, two workers, Eyon Johnson and Damien White, were tragically shot and killed. Authorities arrested a suspect, Sawandi Galara, in February 2023, who has since been charged with murder.
