TD Bank relocates headquarters as Cherry Hill landmark goes back on the market.
TD Bank N.A. has officially listed its iconic headquarters, a prominent five-story corporate pyramid located at Route 70 and Astoria Boulevard in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, for sale. This distinctive structure has been a hallmark of the South Jersey skyline since its inception and is situated on a 4.2-acre plot that prominently overlooks the adjacent New Jersey Turnpike. Known for its unique architectural design, the building, which boasts 68,520 square feet of office space, has drawn attention from potential buyers and investors.
According to a property brochure prepared by CBRE, the site could be attractive to office or medical users seeking to establish a recognizable brand presence in the area. The zoning regulations in place also allow for retail development, broadening the scope of potential uses for the property.
In a strategic move, TD Bank has transitioned to a modern office facility located approximately three miles away in Mount Laurel, at the intersection of Church Road and Arbor Way. This new headquarters not only includes office space but also integrates the bank’s conference center, creating a collaborative environment for employees. The spokesperson for TD Bank remarked that this relocation aims to foster a campus-like atmosphere, enhancing interaction among colleagues and facilitating engagement with senior leadership.
The transition process commenced in September 2024, when TD Bank sold the Cherry Hill property for .7 million, while negotiating a leaseback arrangement that allowed employees to gradually shift operations to Mount Laurel. With the sale of the Cherry Hill location now underway, discussions indicate that the bank expects to fully vacate the Route 70 site by October.
Originally constructed in 1986 as the headquarters for Commerce Bancorp, the building’s distinct wedding cake design features progressive floor plates that decrease in size from base to top, earning it various interpretations, including a comparison to ziggurat architecture. This unique design has made the structure a notable landmark in the region.
As one of the largest banks in the United States, TD Bank serves over 10 million customers across approximately 11,000 branches in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, as well as in the Carolinas and Florida. As a subsidiary of Toronto-Dominion Bank, TD Bank continues to solidify its presence in the competitive banking landscape.
As this prominent piece of real estate makes its way to the market, its future use remains to be seen, but it undoubtedly holds significant potential within the fast-evolving economic environment of South Jersey.
