Teen dies and man critically injured in Brooklyn moped accident.
A serious traffic incident in Brooklyn on Monday has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy, as well as critical injuries to an elderly man. The collision occurred in Midwood around 4 PM, involving the teenager, who was on a gas-powered moped with a passenger, and a Genesis G80 vehicle driven by a 71-year-old man.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the moped was traveling north on East 8th Street when it collided with the Genesis G80. The elderly driver was making a left turn off East 8th Street when the crash took place. Following the impact, the moped struck a parked Honda Odyssey, propelling both the young rider and his passenger from the vehicle.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded promptly, transporting the teenager and his passenger to Maimonides Medical Center. Unfortunately, despite efforts, the 17-year-old succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The passenger’s condition remains unspecified but was also noted to be critical. The driver of the Genesis G80 remained at the scene and reportedly did not sustain any injuries.
As investigations continue, the NYPD Highway District Collision Squad has been dispatched to rigorously examine the details surrounding the incident. No arrests have been made to date.
This tragic occurrence follows another fatal collision involving a moped in Brooklyn over the weekend. On Saturday, a 22-year-old man named Joel Mota was killed while riding his moped in Bay Ridge. Mota collided with a car driven by a 29-year-old woman who was later charged with driving while intoxicated and driving without a valid license after the accident.
